Interview with The I.C.U.

Tae:
Who is The I.C.U?

The I.C.U.:
The I.C.U. is E.D. Nix MacNiffy and Flyght

Tae:
Where are you from and what makes you stand out from other groups?

The I.C.U.:
We are all from New Orleans and what makes us stand out from others from New Orleans is our creativity and originality.  We are different from other artist both local and national, plus our sound is unique.  Our sound is US, we make music that we like to hear and we are blessed to be in the situation that we're in musically. It's funny you know, we have been compared to historically great groups that has graced this genre of music called Hip Hop. We've been told our sound is a blend between N.W.A., Public Enemy, and The Hot Boys. We all laugh because that's a few HUGE pairs of shoes to fill.

Tae:
Who has influenced you the most musically?

The I.C.U.:
Our musical influences are different, its a blend between East Coast and Southern hip hop. We have favorites like Jay-Z, The "Old" Hot Boys, Lauryn Hill and others. We are more influenced by life and the circumstances we face in life than actual artist though.

Tae:
Where did you get your name and what made it stick?

The I.C.U.:
Fall 2003, freshman year of high school, everybody had cliques and stuff like that. We wanted to do more than just be a click rapping and battling around school so, we decided that we were going to go hard and actually do something. It was actually E.D. Nix and MacNiffy. Flyght wasn't added until the summer of Hurricane Katrina. We were doing shows since the Summer of 2004 using our name "The I.C.U." so it made no sense to change it. By the way it does stand for The Introspective Collaboration of Uniqueness.

Tae:
What upcoming projects are you working on?

The I.C.U.:
Well our first Album titled "F.L.Y. Musik" (Future Lives in the Youth) should be independently released in January. Until then E.D. Nix is finishing up a mixtape "Church Girls and Condoms" and MacNiffy is just beginning to work on his mixtape "4play" and they will be released soon no timetable set for those yet.

Tae:
What can people expect from you in 5 years?

The I.C.U.:
The same humble and hard work ethic that we possess now. Hopefully we'll have progressed greatly as men and set the standard for our generation. We just want to be in a position to have given our peers hope!

Tae:
How can people get in touch with you?
